Responsibilities Overload
"Am I overextending myself?" This question sometimes crosses my mind, especially when I feel overwhelmed of the tasks at hand and the to-do list. "Have I signed up to too many commitments?"
In June 2014, after a year and a half being away from the Philippines, I found myself back in my country; however, I was not in the city where I used to live. I was in Manila. The first few days were kind of difficult for me. It was a new environment. I knew no one. I knew from the start that it would take a lot of adjustments before I could feel at home. Fortunately, by God's grace, I quickly found a good job.
In my first month in the academy, I wrote a prayer: "Lord, use me so that I can contribute something good to the academy. I want to help the academy grow, and in doing so help more people find a job. If the academy grows, then obviously, it needs more teachers. If we hire more teachers, then more people can have jobs. Then more people can be helped out."
God answered my prayer. After a few months, I was asked by the manager to be a part of the program team. This team is responsible for assessing the level of the students through an interview, making a customized program for the students depending on their needs and goals, preparing the materials needed in the class, organizing the files in the office, interviewing applicants, and sometimes, I talk to some students in Korean when it's hard for them to speak in English. Yes, I am grateful for this position. I can help the academy grow and expand in ways I know how. At times, though, I feel overwhelmed with all the things I have to do and the things I want to do. Aside from the office work, I also teach. I have to prepare the lessons for my classes. I need to give the best in teaching because my students deserve it. Moreover, personally, as an eldest daughter in the family, I am responsible for the education of my younger siblings. This coming June I am going to send my younger brother to college. Now, I have two younger siblings in college. Sometimes I worry but I believe God is a great provider. He will provide all our needs. He will help me meet the needs, especially financial, of my younger siblings.

My workstation. My desk. The pink trash bin is called "Lassy." Then, I write the names of the students who are on vacation on the calendar. This is my extended memory. :)

- I love responsibilities. It motivates me to work harder and do better. It helps me set goals and keeps me challenged. Here's my two cents though: It's good to be responsible, however, overextending oneself wears you out thus compromises efficiency. Just bite how much you can chew. Choose quality over quantity.
